Report for September 28th, 2001

Fishing continues to do well, especially in the bass and catfish departments. Cooler temperatures are taking hold and it's an excellent time to try your luck on the Earthquake Lake. Here's the report:

Crappie - Crappie fishing remains good. The best catches are still being had in 8-12 feet of water, but the fish have now moved up shallower. Try fishing 2.5 to 3 feet deep for best results. As always, minnows are the top bait.

Stripes - The stripe fishing continues to cool off. I guess we would call it fair, but the best fishing is definitely over. Pin minnows or jigs tipped with pin minnows are the top baits and 6-8 ft. of water is the preferred depth.

Bass - Bass fishing is excellent. Usually it's just starting to pick up about now, but it seems to be about as good as you can ask for. In the fall, the bass will bunch up more, so it may take a while to find them. But, when you find one, you'll probably find more. Spinnerbaits in white and chartreuse are working well, along with blue plastic worms.

Catfish -Catfishing is good to excellent. Some good catches are being had along the trees on the shoreline, but they can be caught just about anywhere at times. Stinkbait and nightcrawlers are the top baits.

Bream (bluegill) - Bream fishing is slow and slower. Not many people fishing for em and the few that are haven't had much luck. You might be able to find a few around the shoreline if you're lucky.
