Report for July 23rd, 2001

Once again this summer fishing pattern is holding steady with few changes. The one major change is the stripe fishing. It has really picked up and provides some fast action for summer anglers.

Stripes - Finally, the stripe fishing has really picked up and some excellent catches are being brought in. The best catches are being caught in 5-5 1/2 feet of water fishing 6-8 inches off the bottom. Try a single pin minnow with a #7 split shot fished under a bobber for the best results. To find the big schools, just look for them hitting the top of the water. They're really chasing the minnows and can be spotted pretty easily. The best times are early in the morning and late in the afternoon, but they will be hitting the surface on and off all day. One of the top areas is on the snow bar out from Bo's Landing.

Bass - Bass fishing is fair to good, but they are still catching some good size fish on average. The best times are early and late and the top baits are buzzbaits, plastic worms in electric blue or shad color and spinnerbaits. Focus on the trees and stumps.

Catfish - Catfishing is excellent. The best catches are coming from the deep water, but a few are being had along the grassy shorelines. One of the best areas is around Swan Basin. Find some deep water and some stumps or snags for the best fishing.

Bream (bluegill) - Right now it's fair. A few can still be caught, but it is kind of hit and miss. Concentrate on shady spots around the trees in 1-3 feet of water and once again focus on early and late in the day.

Crappie - Crappie fishing is still slow. A few are being caught on minnows or jigs tipped with minnows in the deeper water (12-15ft.).
