Report for July 17th, 2001

Fishing remains much like last week and few of the reports have changed. The only significant change is in the stripe fishing. It has finally started picking up and along with the bass fishing, provides the best action on the lake. Here's the rest:

Stripes - Stripe fishing has turned on lately and some good catches are finally being had. The snow bar area out from Bo's Landing is the top area and pin minnows are the top bait. The stripes can often be seen schooling and hitting the surface. The best chance for success is by drifting through the schools with minnows. In Jeremy's words, " Drift right through  the middle of them, moving pretty fast. Go until you stop catching them and turn around and go back through." The best depth seems to be around 5ft..

Bass - Bass fishing is fair to good, but they are still catching some good size fish on average. The best times are early and late and the top baits are buzzbaits, plastic worms in electric blue or shad color and spinnerbaits. Focus on the trees and stumps.

Catfish - Catfishing is still doing well and is one of the few fish that are biting in the middle of the day, if your tough enough to stay out there. The best catches are coming from the deep water, but a few are being had along the grassy shorelines. One of the best areas is around Swan Basin. Find some deep water and some stumps or snags for the best fishing.

Bream (bluegill) - Right now it's fair. A few good catches are still being brought in, but it has slowed. Concentrate on shady spots around the trees in 1-3 feet of water and once again focus on early and late in the day.

Crappie - Crappie fishing is still slow. A few are being caught on minnows or jigs tipped with minnows in the deeper water (12-15ft.).
