Report for July 10th, 2001

All we can say about the weather lately is HOT, HOT, HOT. It's been miserable lately and what fishing is taking place is in the early morning and late afternoon. Fishing has been slow overall, but the catfish are still biting well and a few stripes are starting to be caught. Here's the rest:

Bass - Bass fishing has slowed down but is still fair. The best times are early and late (as with almost everything) and the top baits are buzzbaits, plastic worms and spinnerbaits. There has been a little better action on buzzbaits early in the morning.

Catfish - Catfishing is still doing well and is one of the few fish that are biting in the middle of the day, if your tough enough to stay out there. They have moved a little deeper overall (10+ feet), but a few are being had along the grassy shorelines. One of the best areas is around Swan Basin.

Bream (bluegill) - Right now it's fair. A few good catches are still being brought in, but it has slowed. Concentrate on shady spots around the trees in 1-3 feet of water and once again focus on early and late in the day.

Stripes - Stripe fishing has started to pick up a little bit, but hasn't hit full stride yet. The top bait is pin minnows, but small beetle spins and rooster tails are producing also. The area out from Bo's Landing is the top area.

Crappie - Crappie fishing is slow. A few are being caught on minnows or jigs tipped with minnows in the deeper water.
