Report for August 31st, 2001 Fishing overall has tapered off in the last few weeks. Not only the fish, but the fishermen. This report is kind of general. There haven't been many people fishing lately, so there hasn't been as much information to go by. Largemouth and stripes are making up many of the good catches. Here's the rest: Crappie - Crappie fishing has slacked off again. There are a lot of little ones being caught, but the big ones have been few and far between lately. Minnows are the top bait. Stripes - The stripe fishing remains excellent. Many of the good stringers are being brought in from the shallow water around the trees, but schooling fish out in the deeper water (8ft.+/-) are still around also. Frozen pin minnows are the top bait. Bass - Bass fishing is good. White and White/Chartreuse spinnerbaits are working well. The lily pads have been producing some good fish. Most fish are being caught shallow and the best times are early and late in the day. Rat Island Pocket is one of the top areas. Catfish - Catfishing is fair to good. I guess it's fair for Reelfoot, but on many other lakes it would be considered good. The average fish being caught is still good sized at 2-5 lbs.. Nightcrawlers have been producing some of the best catches lately, followed by stinkbait. Bream (bluegill) - Bream fishing is still just fair. Shady shorelines are the best areas. A few are also being caught mixed in with the stripes in the deeper water. Crickets are the bait of choice.
