Report for August 20th, 2001 The recent rains have supplied some much needed oxygen for the lake and some pretty good fishing has been reported, considering it's the dead of summer. Here's the rest: Crappie - Crappie fishing continues to pick up. Some good catches have been had in the last couple of weeks. The best fishing is in 6-8 ft. of water fishing around 6 feet deep. Minnows are still the bait of choice. Stripes - The stripe fishing is excellent, with some fish now being caught in the trees near the bank. They can also be found chasing minnows on the surface in 6 to 8 feet of water, especially in the calm part of the day. Try frozen pin minnows or frozen pin minnows on a white jighead for good results. The best catches are coming from anywhere between 1 1/2 to 6 feet deep. Bass - Bass fishing is fair. White spinnerbaits and plastic worms in Shad, Electric Blue and Junebug colors are some of the top baits. Most are being caught around the trees in shallow water. As always this time of year, early and late in the day provide the best fishing. Catfish - Catfishing has picked up a little since last week and could be called fair to good. Some good catches have come near the bank, as it seems the rains and wind have them feeding a little shallower. Deep water is still producing some good fish also. The Reelfoot special, Sonny's Stinkbait, is one of the top baits along with nightcrawlers. Bream (bluegill) - Bream fishing is fair. The upper blue basin area has produced some nice catches here and there. They are being caught in the 1-3 foot range. Top bait is crickets.
