Report for August 12th, 2001

We waited a few extra days before reporting to see if the recent rains and somewhat cooler temperatures might help the fishing, and it did. A few good catches of bluegill and crappie have been had in the last few days after being slow for a while. The rains provided much needed oxygen and it seemed to get the fish stirring a little. Continued cooler weather (85-90, if you call that cool) and scattered showers should also help in the upcoming week. Here's the rest:

Crappie - Crappie fishermen have been bringing in some nice catches lately. The best fishing is in 7 feet of water while fishing 2-3 feet off the bottom. Double minnow rigs are the top bait.

Stripes - The stripe fishing is still doing well. Focus on areas with a Sandy bottom. Single rigged frozen pin minnows are the bait of choice. One of the more popular areas is on the southwest end of the lake.

Bass - Bass fishing is still fair, but the rains should pick them up a bit also. Don't have many reports on them lately, so can't really say for sure.  The best times are early and late and the top baits are buzzbaits, plastic worms in electric blue or shad color and spinnerbaits. Focus on the trees and stumps.

Catfish - Catfishing has slowed a little bit. Some good catches are still being brought in, but not as consistently as in the previous weeks. Most of the best catches are coming from the deep water. Try around the stumps and snags for the best fishing.

Bream (bluegill) - Upgraded from slow to fair. As mentioned earlier, there have been a few good catches coming in recently. They are being caught in the 1-3 foot range. Top bait is crickets.
