Report for May 8th, 2001 Bream
(bluegill) - It's the perfect time for bluegill and catches of 100 or
more are common. In Jeremy's words, they are biting just about
everywhere. Preferred baits are crickets, and tiny black jigs (1/64oz.) tipped with waxworms. Both of these are fished about a foot and a half under a bobber in two to four feet of water. Crappie Fishing - Crappie have mostly if not all spawned out, but are biting o.k.. Most of them are being caught in water from 6-16 feet deep and they are being caught at 3-4 feet deep. They are scattered, but some good sized fish are being taken. Try drifting in different depths of water, but fish in the 3-4 foot range. Catfish -Catfishing is still excellent and catches of 100 pounds a day or more are almost common. Jeremy says just find a log sticking out of the water and start fishing it. Any structure you find is probably holding fish. Tightlining with Sonny's stinkbait is working well and some are also being caught on crickets. Bass Fishing - Bass Fishing is good with most fish being caught on shore lines in the shady areas. Best fishing is early in the morning and late in the afternoon. Some of the top baits are spinnerbaits in white and chartreuse, crankbaits and plastic worms. Try blue and or silver colors in the crankbaits and worms.
