Report for March 8th, 2001

Well the story hasn't changed much. The weather is still the number one factor as it always is this time of year. The fronts moving through every few days have thrown the fish for a loop and they haven't been biting much the last few days. But, all it will take is a couple of warm days like today and the crappie fishing should be going well again.

The water is relatively clear now even in the north end and it's holding steady at normal pool: still high for this time of year.

Here's what Jeremy has to report this week:
The crappie fishing is off just a little bit. The weather has kind of messed em up. They are scattered anywhere from 4 to 15 feet deep in water that's 12 to 16 feet deep. The best method is to drift with a double minnow rig until you can find the preferred depth.

Now, remember that if the weather straightens out the crappie will turn on about as fast as they turned off.

A few crappie are starting to be caught in the shallows on jigs also. Blue and White or Black and Chartreuse are the best colors.

We are finally getting a few bass fishing reports also. Though it's not at full steam yet, there are a few being caught. The bass are holding in the lily pad stems and around the scattered trees in the middle basin and on the north end. The lures working well are a  black, blue and silver swimming image or bang o lure (shallow running crankbaits), black and blue jig and pigs and white spinnerbaits.

Catfish have also started to bite a little. They are scattered, so drifting is the way to go. They are holding to the bottom and biting on Sonny's Stinkbait.
