Report for April 6th, 2001 A sudden temperature increase has put the fish on the move. Surface temperatures are finally in the upper 50's as of Wednesday and the fish are responding. Shallow water fishing should definitely improve and already has somewhat. The lake level is still high and the water is generally clear. Here's the rest: Bass Fishing - excellent catches in both size and number and this warm weather should make it even better. Shallow running crankbaits, white spinnerbaits and black and blue plastic lizards are some of the more popular baits. The upper (north) end is really producing with fish averaging in the 2-4 lb. range. Try in anywhere from 3-5 foot deep around the stumps. Although
the spawn is starting already, here are a few tips for Pre Spawn Bass
Fishing Crappie Fishing - crappie had barely started moving shallow as of Tuesday, now holding in the 10-15 ft. range. But, that was Tuesday and the warmest weather of the year has occurred since then. Look for significant movement towards shallow water to occur if it hasn't already. Minnows are working best. Catfishing - a few good stringers are being caught, but it's still a little early. Try sonny's stinkbaits or nightcrawlers in the ditches and on the flats at night. Bluegill - same as cats, a little slow. Jigs and waxworms in the ditches and shorelines in 1-3 feet of water are working best. Click
