Report for April 20th, 2001

Crappie Fishing - Jeremy went out Wednesday and caught 30 in 3 or 4 hours. The fish were ranging from one half to 1 and 3/4 pounds. He says the males are on the beds fanning in 5-6.5 feet of water. Make sure and concentrate on the areas with a hard bottom and lots of structure.

Bream (bluegill) - Got some reports of people wearing out the bluegill in the Upper Blue Basin. Black jigs tipped with waxworms and crickets are the baits of choice. Most people fish a slip bobber with 18 inches of line up in the shallow water.

Catfish - the catfish are really turning on right now. Some good fish are being caught fishing the bottom in about 6 feet of water. The old local favorite sonny's stinkbait is the bait of choice.

Bass Fishing - some good fish are being caught, but the cold weather has kind of screwed them up. It's been a case of hit and miss and not as consistent as it has been. Most bass are in the shallow clear water and can be very spooky on sunshiney days. Cloudy days are providing the best chance to get in the shallows without scaring em. Top baits are shallow diving crankbaits in black and blue or shad color and spinnerbaits.
