reelfoot lake fishing report

Reelfoot Lake Fishing Report for:
September 5th, 2002

I know that everybody keeps checking this while waiting for word that the fishing has busted loose and the fall patterns are on. Well, not this week, and maybe not for another couple of weeks. Things are slow on Reelfoot and there really isn't much to say, so I'll keep it short.

If you are wanting to catch some catfish, then you just may be in luck, as they are providing the safest bet for a good day on Reelfoot right now. Stinkbait and Nightcrawlers are the top baits. Focus on the 4-10 foot depth range. Fish near the bottom. Logs and around the edge of the pads are good areas to try.

If you are wanting to catch anything else, well good luck. It's not that some bass, bream and crappie can't be had. Just that it is not a prime time for any of them. The lake is still in the late summer pattern and though it hasn't been quite as hot out there during the day, it hasn't cooled down much at night. Therefore, the water temps are still high and fish just aren't moving much. As always this time of year, early and late in the day are your best bets.

The good news is that this time last year things really picked up in a hurry. So it could be any time now.

We will be monitoring the fishing situation very closely in the weeks ahead, and as soon as we start getting some good reports, you'll be the first to know.
