reelfoot lake fishing report

Reelfoot Lake Fishing Report for:
September 19th, 2003

After missing last week, we would have hoped for a better fishing report. But, it's just not happening right now. A cold front is coming through this weekend and should cool the water temps. That will hopefully get the fish more active. Prime fishing could begin any time now, but it's likely still a few weeks away. Never know with the cooler than average temps we've experienced this summer. Here's hoping it starts sooner than later.

Lake level is a couple of inches above pool stage. Water temps on the main lake are in the upper 70's. Here's the rest, as bleak as it may be:

Crappie-After a couple of fair to good weeks, crappie fishing has slowed again this week. It's been tough out there and the fish are scattered. Cover a wide range of depths from 6-14. Minnows are the top bait.

   Bass-Slow also.

   Catfish-Slow

   Bluegill- Slow

   Stripes- Slow

Wish we had more positive news, but we've got to call it like we hear it. Anglers have had a tough time this week. Things could change in a hurry with the upcoming front, so be prepared to give em a try after it comes through. Might be a different story then. Just ain't happening right now.
