reelfoot lake fishing report

Reelfoot Lake Fishing Report for:
August 19th, 2005

Hasn't been much to report over the last few weeks, but we're getting some good news this week. Even though the weather is hot and the water is warm, Jackie and his fellow guides have had some good days lately.

He did really well on crappie, bringing in about 50 keepers a few days ago. Bass and catfish are also doing good. Stripes and bluegill aren't faring so well.

Lake level is about 6 inches below pool level, so be careful out there. Lots of stumps to hit right now. Water temp is at 86 degrees. Here's the rest:

Crappie- Even though Jackie had some really nice catches, it would still be considered fair to good. Usually this isn't the time of year to bag a nice mess of crappie. But, it's happened for more than a few anglers lately.

Jackie did well fishing 12-15 feet of water and fishing 6-8 feet deep. Minnows are the bait of choice.

Bass- Good reports this week on Bass. Guides Billy Blakely and Mark Pierce had a nice catch this week. Didn't get all the details, but the key is fishing early and late in the day.

Bluegill- Slow. Not much else to say about it.

Catfish- Catfishing is good also. Same as bass, fish early and late for best results. Focus on submerged logs in about 4-7 feet of water.

Stripes (Yellow Bass)- They're slow or maybe fair. Still slower than usual for this time of year.
