Reelfoot Lake Fishing Report for: Even though it's hitting the dead of summer, there are still some fish biting. Bluegill lead the way, but bass and catfish aren't so bad either. Lake level has dropped to 5-6 inches below pool level, so be very very cautious out there. You will hit some stumps at that level, almost guaranteed. Water temperature is very high at 88 degrees. Here's the rest: Bluegill- Jackie said they're in their third bedding cycle. Would be considered good right now. Fish shallow (between 1-3 feet). It's a good time to cast with an ultralight. Try using a small spoon. Just cast in the shallows, let it hit the bottom and twitch it very, very slowly. Catfish- Catfishing is good also. Crickets, stinkbait and nightcrawlers have been producing. Find some good stumps in 10 feet or less on your depth finder for a good chance at some cats. Crappie- Still holds at fair. Not bad for the second week of July on Reelfoot. Early and late in the day are by far your best times. Try water depths between 6-15 feet. Bass- Bass fishing is fair to good. Shallow running crankbaits and black/blue worms work well. They are biting in the early morning and again in the middle of the day. Stripes (Yellow Bass)- A few have been schooling, but still not much action from anglers.
