Reelfoot Lake Fishing Report for: It's the dead of summer here and there's not much fishing going on. The only species really thriving right now are the yellow bass. They love the hot weather. Lake level is around pool level. We don't have an exact water temperature. But, it should move between 84-88 for the next month or longer, depending on the rain. Here's the rest, what little there is: Bluegill- Slow. They are catching a few, but they're running small. Catfish- Slow to Fair on nightcrawlers and stinkbait. Crappie- Slow. You can probably catch a few on minnows early and late in the day. Best depths are 8-14 feet. Bass- Not many reports. If you try them, hit them early and late, as with most species this time of year. Stripes (Yellow Bass)- The one fish that is biting. Would be considered good at this point. Hit the water very early and look for them schooling around the banks, usually about 50 yards out from the bank. The Kiwanis Park area and the area around Bo's Landing are good areas to try. Pin minnows are the top bait. As usual, Bo's Landing is the only place we know that carries them. Just fish the pin minnows shallow (about a foot or so), under a slip bobber. Keep going a little deeper if you're not catching any.
