Reelfoot Lake Fishing Report for: Well, it's been a while again since we posted a fishing report. Good old computer problems. Fishing is still faring ok on Reelfoot. Not great but not bad for this time of year. Weather has been heating up as has the water temperature. Make sure to wear your sunblock out there. Lake level has dropped to 2-3 inches below pool level. Water temperature is at 88. Here's the rest: Bluegill- It's fair to good right now. There are still some fish on the beds, but much of the spawning is over. If you're going after them, try sneaking in to the grassy shorelines. Don't blast up in there. Shut the motor down before you get to the spot you're fishing and quietly get in there close to them. They're just plain spooky. Crickets are the bait of choice for most. Catfish- Now here's a warm weather fish, and Reelfoot Lake has plenty of them. Would be considered good right now. Try hitting the shoreline early and late in the day. Just find some kind of structure that they might be loafing around and give them a try. One of the unique baits lately has been cheddar cheese. Folks at Reelfoot are always trying something new. Not that cheese is a revolutionary bait, but it's just not used much with all these new fangled baits available now. Jackie recommends you let it sit for a little bit to kind of stink up the area. Much like any other smelly bait. Nightcrawlers are also a good bait. Might try some of both if you can. Crappie- Anglers are still catching a few. Would only be considered fair though. Like most species this time of year, hit them early and late in the day. Depths of 8-14 feet should produce a few. Bass- Once again, early and late in the day. Fishing is fair and the same old baits are producing; Crankbaits, spinnerbaits, worms and of course top water baits. The heat of summer is a great time for top waters at the crack of dawn. Stripes (Yellow Bass)- No reports yet.
