reelfoot lake fishing report

Reelfoot Lake Fishing Report for:
April 3, 2011

April is about to chase away a mean March that wore out its welcome. Reelfoot Lake is 5" above pool level. Water color is in good shape. Surface temps this week were 58 to 60 degree range.

Bluegill: Slow: Bite should pick up any day.

Crappie: Good: Reports coming in with catches of 40-70 fish a day being caught in 3'+ water. Male crappie showed spawn is fast approaching as hormonal changes were taking place. Several darker fish are beginning to move up toward the shallow water. Peak spawning phases usually occur once water reaches that 62 to 66 degree range. Baits of choice have been trolling double rigs with minnows and jigs. Some fish are being caught casting jigs in 2-4' water. Remember, the limit is 30 Crappie per day per man. There are no size limits on Reelfoot Lake.

Bass: Good: Some nice largemouth are being caught around the shallow trees and stumps. Slow rolling 3/4oz single blade spinnerbait is still working for some anglers.

Catfish: Good: The bite is good in the ditches and around deeper logs and trees. Its also yo-yo time.

Stripes: Slow: Catching some while crappie fishing
