1st Annual Reelfoot Lake Eagle Festival
January 14th- 16th, 2005
 

Reelfoot Lake has long been known for its large wintering population of bald eagles.  Normally 100-200 bald eagles spend their winter at Reelfoot Lake.  These majestic birds draw in tourists by the thousands. Tourists can find bald eagles all around the lake.  Visitors can view the eagles on land or by boat and have ample viewing opportunities.  A festival has been created to welcome eagle watchers. This festival is a joint partnership with Reelfoot NWR, Reelfoot State Park, and Reelfoot Lake Tourist Council.     The festival schedule is as follows:

Friday, January 14

7:45 a.m- 4:00 p.m. - Reelfoot NWR Welcome Center.  Refreshments, information and tours available at 8:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., and 2:00 p.m. Reservations required.

Tours available with Reelfoot State Park- call for available times. 

8:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m., and 2:00 p.m- Tours offered by Reelfoot NWR.  Space is limited. Call for further information.  Reservations required.

7:00 p.m. - Welcome/Overview/Introduction- Take place at Reelfoot Lake State Park (Ellington Hall). There will be refreshments, goody bags, a photography display, and a scavenger hunt will begin on Friday.

Saturday, January 15

6:00 a.m. - Sunrise Photography tour that leaves from Airpark Inn.

8:00 a.m., 10:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m- Reelfoot NWR Visitor Center- Refuge eagle tours.  Call for additional information and to make reservations.

10:00 a.m. - Reelfoot Lake State Park Eagle Tours

1:00 p.m. – Reelfoot Lake State Park Eagle Tours

3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. - Sunset Tours- Reelfoot Lake State Park. Observe eagles, ducks, and geese returning to roost at Long Point and Black Bayou.

7:00 p.m. - Birds of Prey Program- Airpark Inn Refreshments, Bags of goodies, Scavenger hunt continues.

Sunday, January 16

6: 00 a.m. - Sunrise Photography tour that leaves from Airpark Inn.

8:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m., and 2:00 p.m. - Reelfoot NWR Visitor Center- Refuge eagle tours

10:00 a.m. –Reelfoot Lake State Park eagle tours

12:00 – Scavenger Hunt Ends- Meet at Ellington Hall

1:00 p.m. - Reelfoot Lake State Park eagle tours

Note: If Weather Permits Pontoon Cruises Will Be Available!!!!!!!
