Public Dove Fields

The TWRA has increased their efforts for providing public dove fields in the 2001 hunting season. It was discussed  in a previous meeting that the funds allocated for these fields were not being used. There was a surplus of money in this fund last year, meaning that they could not find enough farmers to participate and actually had money that was earmarked for this project left over.

This year they have increased the fund to $80,000 to help provide more incentive to farmers and thereby increase the fields available. The problem before seemed to be that the amount offered to the farmers was not sufficient to make it worth their time and effort. The increase in funds will hopefully double the number of public dove fields this year. They have also pledged more effort to find farmers and guarantee that these funds are used.

Many hunters have heard about these public fields in the past, but supply is not meeting demand. I commend the commission on realizing these shortcomings and doing something about it.

The location of these dove fields will be released later this year and Reelfoot.com will have them for you. If you know of any farmers that would be interested in participating in this program let us know.
