reelfoot lake fishing report

Reelfoot Lake Fishing Report for:
October 4th, 2002

Fishing is getting better and better for Bass and  Crappie on Reelfoot. This should be the beginning of a couple of good months of fishing. It is also a great time just to be out  there. Eagles and waterfowl are starting to move in and the other critters are getting a little more active also. The leaves are starting to turn and the lake is not too crowded this time of year, with the deer hunting and all. Get out there and enjoy this beautiful time on the lake.

Water temps are ranging from 68-72 and the lake is about 4 inches above pool stage. Here's the rest:

Crappie-Crappie fishing remains good and should be excellent soon. Catches of 30-35 keepers (1/2 lb. and up) a day are common. Not really catching a lot of big fish, but good size nevertheless. Try fishing 6 foot deep in about 8-10 feet of water. This time of year they aren't biting too early, so don't get in a hurry. Jackie says if he had 4 hours to fish, it would be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Top bait, as always, is minnows.

Bass-Bass fishing remains good also. Try in 3 feet of water or less. Top baits include the usual spinnerbait and 4 inch tube baits. The tubes can be fished Texas rigged or try putting some foam inside and fish them weightless over the pads. Jackie inserts ear plugs to increase buoyancy, but anything that will add some floatation should work, in case you ain't got no earplugs. Top color tubes are black/blue and green with a chartreuse tail.

Catfish-Catfishing has slowed with the cooler water temps.

 Bluegill-Slow

Stripes-We're not even sure if there are any left. If there are, nobody's catchin em.
