reelfoot lake fishing report

Reelfoot Lake Fishing Report for:
October 18th, 2002

The report this week is good for Crappie and Bluegill, while bass have slowed due to the recent cold front. Got another major cold front moving in, so it could affect the fishing for the next few days also.

Water temps are in the 64-68 degree range. The lake is about 4-6 inches above pool. Here's the rest:

Crappie-Crappie fishing is good. They have moved a little bit shallower and are being caught fishing 6 ft. deep in 10 foot of water (or right around there). They are schooling up and holding tight to cover. So, once you find em stick with em. They're not biting fast, but they are biting steady.

Jackie said the best bite has been after 10am, but caught them early today. Probably triggered by the approaching front.

The  average size is also good. In just the few minutes that I was on the phone with Jackie he brought in two weighing 1 1/4 and 1 1/2. Not to say that's typical, but sounds pretty good to me. Minnows are the top bait.

Bluegill-Bluegill fishing has really picked up in the ditches. Some good catches have been brought in on popeye jigs (black) tipped with waxworms. Horse Island Ditch is producing well, among others.

Bass-Bass fishing has slowed due to the cold front. Fish slow.  Top baits are Crankbaits (Jackie likes the 4S by Strike King in the fire tiger pattern), Spinnerbaits and blue flake worms. The mouths of ditches and points are good places to focus on.

Catfishing-Like the Bass, they have slowed since the last cold front.

  Stripes-Slow.
