reelfoot lake fishing report

Reelfoot Lake Fishing Report for:
October 10th, 2002

It has reached prime time on Reelfoot, so get out there when you can. That's not to say that every day they will be biting, but they have really turned on this week. Crappie has gone from good to excellent, bass fishing is good, catfishing has picked back up and even the bluegill are biting ok.

Water temps are ranging from 68-72 and the lake is about 3 inches above pool stage, great level for fall fishing. Here's the rest:

Crappie-Crappie fishing has been excellent this week. Try fishing in 10-14 feet of water and fish 8-10 feet deep (8 being the best right now). Find you a good spot and watch that depth finder. You'll see fish at different depths. Try each of these depths until one produces. Minnows are the top bait.

Bass-Bass fishing is good. Focus on the shallow water structure.  Buzzbaits and spinnerbaits have been working well. Fish them both SLOW.

Catfish-Catfishing picked back up this week. Don't fish any deeper than 8 feet of water, with 4-7 being the best depth. Stinkbait and nightcrawlers are producing well. Also, cut shad works well with the cooler water temperatures. If you've got a throw net, you can probably pick up plenty of em around the boat ramp.

Bluegill-Bluegill has picked up also. While it's not great fishing, they are bringing in 30-40 a day on crickets.

 Stripes-Slow, nuff said.
