Reelfoot Lake Fishing Report for: Fishing continues to get better and it's only the beginning of some great fall fishing. Crappie and catfish are leading the way with bass improving also. Cool weather has dropped the lake temps into the low 70's. Once it hits the 60's it should be prime time on Reelfoot. Lake level is a couple of inches below pool. Here's the rest: Crappie-Just getting better and better. Would be considered good at this point. Nice catches have been had in anywhere from 8-14 feet of water. They're schooled up right now, so as Jackie says, "If you in em, you're in em". Stay on top of em once you start catching a few. Catches of 30-40 are common. Top bait is minnows. Jackie points out that his favorite time to catch crappie in the fall is once the water temps hit the high 50's. With the cool weather we've had lately, that may not be far away. Bass-Still not bringing in a bunch of largemouth, but the ones being caught are averaging good size. Fish in the 3-5 pound range are being brought in this week. Top baits are white/chartreuse spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, slug gos in shad color and tube baits in pumpkin seed. Catfish-Doing well right now and would be considered good. Trotliners and yo-yo fishermen have been doing very well in the past few days. Top baits are nightcrawlers, stinkbait and chicken livers. Bluegill- Slow. Not many, if any, people trying em. Stripes (Yellow Bass)- Continues to be good. Pin minnows fished two to three feet deep have been producing. Look for them chasing minnows on the surface in the pockets. Get out there in the next few weeks if you can. With all the deer hunters in the woods, there's plenty of room on the lake....and they should be biting.
