reelfoot lake fishing report

Reelfoot Lake Fishing Report for:
October 10th, 2003

It may be some of the best fishing of the year right now. Crappie have really been biting well along with Yellow Bass and Largemouth. Most anglers are focusing on the crappie and they've done well.

Jackie was in early with a limit of crappie every day he fished this week. That's not to say that everybody can do that, but it's definitely a good sign. Get out there and enjoy the scenery and some great fishing over the next few weeks.

Lake level is a few inches below pool. Water temps are in the low 60's. Here's the rest:

Crappie-Crappie fishing is excellent right now. They are schooled up, so if you get in em stay on em. Jackie's best catches have come from fishing 6-8 feet deep in 12-14 feet of water. Of course if you're fishing water that deep on Reelfoot it's in the lower Blue Basin. Minnows, as always, are the top bait.

Bass-While we haven't gotten a lot of reports, the reports we've been getting in the last few days have been excellent. Anglers are having success on spinnerbaits, pop-r's, spoons and other top waters.

Look for the schooling minnows around the mouths of ditches and in pockets. Focus on cover - logs, bonnets, grass lines and anything else.

Catfish-Slow this week. Might have one more good run left in em in the next few weeks.

Bluegill- Slow and slower. The ones being caught are little to boot.

Stripes (Yellow Bass)- good to excellent. Pin minnows are the top bait. Try fishing anywhere from 3-8 feet of water.
