reelfoot lake fishing report

Reelfoot Lake Fishing Report for:
November 7th, 2003

It's been a good week to work on the ole duck blind, since windy conditions have kept most fishermen off the lake lately. With deer season underway and duck season not far off, there haven't been many people after our finned friends, so we don't have a lot to go on. Got a few good reports from catfishermen, but that's about it.

With fishing taking a back seat to hunting for the winter, we probably won't have a fishing report every week. We'll keep you updated on any major changes. Just won't have one every week. Keep in mind that the crappie will probably be deep from now til spring and there can be good crappie fishing throughout the winter.

Good news is, the ducks are really moving in this week. If the wind will lay could be some good crappie fishing now also.

Water temps are around 60, but that's just an estimate. Should be dropping off considerably with this colder weather. Here's the rest:

Crappie-They haven't been able to fish the depths that crappie should be holding in (8-14 feet) due to the wind. But, should still be some good fishing. Look for them to settle into the deeper depths over the next week or two and remain there over the winter. Minnows are the top bait.

As mentioned, don't overlook the winter crappie fishing on Reelfoot. December and January can provide some of the best fishing of the year. They'll get stacked up in the deeper water in the lower blue basin and provide some great fishing.

Bass-Slow. Cold weather has put the hurt on em.

Catfish-Did get some good reports on catfish this week. Here's the trick: Try up around the Forked Pond area (north end of Samburg ditch on the left). Look for the commorants and fish where they are. Try bobber fishing with nightcrawlers or shad. Stay back a little and cast in to em. Try one spot for a minute or two, then move on till you get in em.

One angler brought in about 200 lbs. worth of cat one day this week with this technique.

   Bluegill- Slow.

   Stripes-Slow.
