Reelfoot Lake Fishing Report for: Fishing this week remains pretty good for the most part. Crappie have slowed, but bass and catfish are doing very well. Bluegill are somewhere in between. Lake level is down around pool stage. They shut the spillway gates Wednesday. Jackie's temperature gauge broke this week, so don't have the exact temp. Should be in the lower 70's on the main lake. Here's the rest: Crappie-Crappie fishing has slowed considerably. Try close around the trees in 4 ft. of water or deeper. Jackie recommends first working a jig in tight. If that doesn't produce, try a single minnow with a split shot. The single setup is easier to work tight to the trees. Bass-Bass fishing has been excellent. Same old Reelfoot favorites are working well - white/chartreuse spinnerbait, shallow shad color crankbait and black/blue jig and pig. Jackie likes the plastic pig. Same shape as the old pork rind, just easier to mess with. They're catching them in almost every type of cover. Try trees, logs, bonnets and about any other structure in 6 foot of water or less Catfish-Catfishing has been excellent around the mouths of ditches this week. Look for that pattern to change a little bit now that they've shut the spillway and the current has subsided. You might have better luck now by trying the logs and edges of bonnet patches in 3-6 feet of water. Nightcrawlers and shad (whole or cut in half) should produce well. Bluegill-Been a little hit and miss on the bluegill. Still would be considered good. Jackie brought in 70 Wednesday, but only 27 Thursday in the high winds. Best depths are 3-4 1/2 feet. Top bait is crickets. Stripes (yellow bass)- Still slow.
