Reelfoot Lake Fishing Report for: Still a pretty good time for fishing on Reelfoot. Catfishing is excellent. Bass, Crappie and Bluegill are all good. Most of this report is from earlier this week (Tues. and Wed.). A cold front came through Tuesday night and though it didn't affect the fishing much Wednesday, it could have a detrimental effect over the next few days. Supposed to be a little cooler than normal through Sunday. Water levels are still a foot above pool. Good healthy level for spring/summer on Reelfoot. Water temps on the main lake are 71. Could drop a little with this cooler weather. Here's the rest: Crappie-Crappie fishing is good. Still a few females left with eggs, but males are making up more and more of the catches. Most anglers are having success in 10 foot or less of water and there are still a few being caught up shallow in the trees. We know this is a wide range of depths. But in transition times like this, they're covering a wide range. Jackie recommends trying both jigs and minnows to see what they're wanting that day. Good jig colors are blk/chartreuse or pink/chart. Don't feel limited to these colors. These are just some of the favorites that you might want to try. Bass-Bass fishing has probably seen the biggest jump in action this week. Much like the crappie, the males are the ones biting best. Good sized fish and good numbers of them being caught. Catches of 20-40 fish and sizes up to about 4-4.5 lbs. Not a lot of big females being brought in. Still good fishing never the less. Hit the trees around the shoreline. A white spinnerbait with double colorado blades should work well. Also, shallow running crankbaits in shad color. Catfish-Catfishing has been excellent around the mouths of ditches. Many of the ditches have some good current right now and are holding lots of shad. Try the mouth first. If nothing happens, go on in the ditch a little ways. Ditches on the east side usually have some pretty good flow. Top bait has been shad, either cut in half or whole. Both tightlining and bobber fishing could work. Just try a little of both to see what produces. Bluegill-The cold front has slowed the bluegill a bit. Still would be considered good. Takes a lot to really slow the bluegill fishing on Reelfoot this time of year. It should be excellent after it warms back up this next time. Crickets or feather jigs in 2-6 feet of water should work well. Stripes (yellow bass)- They are catching a few. Still too early.
