Reelfoot Lake Report for:
May 3rd, 2002

Fishing this week remains good. Whether it's bass, crappie, bream or catfish you're after, you've got a good chance to catch a few right now.

Bluegill- The bluegill are starting to bed and the prime season has begun. Look for good action from now until the first of July. Try fishing crickets of waxworms around the many trees and lily pads along the shoreline.

Crappie- Crappie fishing remains good. The males are on the beds right now and are making up a lot of the recent catches. Locate the beds around stumps and stick close to them. Depths vary anywhere from 3-10 feet. Minnows, as always, are one of the top baits.

Bass- People have been catching a lot of bass in the last week. Males in the 2 1/2 pound range continue to make up the majority of the catches. Top baits are white spinnerbaits, and tubes baits in black/blue or green. For spinnerbaits try fishing a 1/4 oz. size with 2 silver Colorado blades. Just toss it out and start reeling as soon as it hits the water without allowing it to sink. Keep it 6-8 inches deep as you reel for good results.

Catfish- Catfishing on Reelfoot is almost always pretty good from this time of year on. Try fishing a sponge dipped in stinkbait or nightcrawlers for good results.

  Yellow Bass- No reports.
