Reelfoot Lake Fishing Report for: Warm weather has been the story this week and water temperatures have reflected that. Bass have moved into their spawning areas and crappie are headed towards theirs. But, there is a cold front moving through this weekend and who knows what effects it will have. Crappie fishing has been kind of hit and miss this week. They are moving shallower, but are still at a variety of depths and some anglers have had a tough time locating them. A lot will depend on the cold front. But, the crappie should move shallow soon after the front and fishing should be more predictable. It's just hard to stay on em when they're in this transition stage before the spawn. Water temps on the main lake are at 58 degrees. Though we don't have an accurate reading for the shallow areas, they should be in the low to mid 60's in some areas. Lake level is around 6 inches above pool stage. Here's the rest: Crappie-As mentioned, the crappie are scattered over a wide range of depths, from 3-8 feet. While they are scattered, they are holding very tight to the cover. The fishing would be considered fair/good at this time. Jackie said it was pretty good on Wednesday, but slower on Thursday. He went out Thursday and kept 25 out of the 40 that he caught. Minnows are the top bait. Bass-Still just fair at this time, but they're moving shallow and should start spawning at anytime, if they haven't already. A few days after the upcoming cold front should be a very good time to try them. We really expect to have a good report by next week. Some anglers are having fair luck around the mule foot bonnets (the smaller bonnets that stick up above the surface of the water and resemble a mule's foot in shape). White/chartreuse spinnerbaits, texas rigged black lizards and bang o lures are good bets to get a few strikes. Catfish-Catfishing has been good around the mouths of ditches and in the ditches. Stinkbait has been working best for the anglers that reported. Bluegill-They're starting to catch a few bluegill in the shallows on waxworms and popeye jigs. However, the upcoming front might affect the bluegill more than other species. Stripes-no reports.
