Reelfoot Lake Report for: Spring Weather can make fishing very unpredictable, and that's the case right now on Reelfoot. While some good catches of crappie were reported Wednesday, Thursday was even warmer but saw some tough fishing. It's just hard to predict what tomorrow might bring this time of year, so it's best just to try em when you can and hope that's the day. Extended periods of warm weather will help the fishing stabilize, but who knows when that will be and don't forget about the wind. If we ever get a few nice days in a row, they will probably be accompanied by 20 mile an hour winds. Bass fishing has also slowed due to recent weather. The one bright spot is the catfishing. This is the best time of year to fish in the worst kind of weather. That's just spring fishing! Here's the rest: Crappie- fishing has been spotty, with good days followed by bad days. On the days they should be biting they're not and vice versa. Continued warm weather over the next 5 days should improve things a lot. Many of the fish have moved back deeper in 10-12 feet of water on the main lake. The crappie could suspend a little shallower in these same depths, so don't focus strictly on fishing the bottom. Be open minded and be prepared to fish different depths on different days, sometimes even on the same day as it heats up. It looks like the best fishing is about a week and a half away according to Jackie. But, once again the weather will play a big role in that. Top bait is minnows. Try fishing slow until the weather and the fishing stabilize. Bass- Bass have really been affected lately and reports of slow fishing are the norm. Remember, that could change from day to day. The bass have started staging in the shallow areas and a warm sunny day or two could really pick things up. Top baits include spinnerbaits and jigs. Catfish- One of the few bright spots this last week is the catfishing. This inflow of water has got em biting. Fishing around large stick ups is a good bet for some action. Also, try the downstream end of ditches, as the cats sit there waiting on an easy meal. Stinkbait and nightcrawlers are some of the top baits. Bluegill- slow Yellow Bass- slower
