reelfoot lake fishing report

Reelfoot Lake Fishing Report for:
July 18th, 2003

It's hot out there, oxygen levels are low and fishing is slow for the most part. Catfishing is good. Bass and bluegill fishing are fair. Not much else happening besides that.

Probably won't have a fishing report next week. Hopefully will be on vacation. Don't expect many changes from this report anyhow.

Water temps are around 86 degrees. Lake level is falling and now about 8 inches below pool. Here's the rest:

Bluegill-Bluegill fishing is fair. Probably the next best bet to catfish right now. Try crickets in shallow water (3 feet or less).

Crappie-Even slower. Not a good time for crappie on Reelfoot.

Bass-Bass fishing would be considered fair. As we've said before, you can almost always catch a few bass on Reelfoot. Might be able to find a few bunched up in pockets or mouths of ditches. Topwaters or plastic worms should work for bait.

Catfish-Catfishing remains good. They had the Reelfoot Tourism Council Catfish Tournament last week and anglers did well in 4-8 feet of water on stinkbait, nightcrawlers, chicken livers and cut shad.

Stripes (yellow bass)- No reports. Should start seeing them chasing minnows soon. But after last year, we could be in for another mediocre year on these little suckers.
