Report for: January 11th, 2002

It seems that many sportsmen are already giving up on the duck hunting and heading out fishing. While there still aren't many people chasing bass or bluegill, and for good reason, there are more and more crappie anglers and it's due in large part to the excellent success they're having.

Many fishermen are reporting catching excellent sized crappie and lots of them. The top areas are in the deeper water (15+) feet deep and the top bait is minnows, fished on a double crappie rig.

After getting a little more feedback lately, it seems like the few crappie fishermen that have stayed after them this winter have had more than their fair share of good days.

There are already people attributing the excellent fishing to the lack of commercial fishing. It's still a little premature to say that's the reason for the good fishing, but who cares why as long as they're biting.

Mid January through February has always been a prime time to catch larger fish on Reelfoot. But, the reports are still better than would be expected at this point of the year.
