2000 REGION I DEER HARVEST RESULTS
The
harvest figures for the 2000 Tennessee deer hunting seasons are in and
Region I (West Tennessee) showed a slight decrease in the overall
harvest. The total tags collected for the 2000 season in Region I
is 51,894 compared to 48,264 in 1999.
"Even though the overall harvest for some of the counties in West
Tennessee was lower for 2000, this was mainly due to the lower number of
East Tennessee hunters not having to travel this far west in order to
hunt deer," stated Alan Peterson, Region I big-game biologist.
"The first gun season, which is buck only, showed an increase
of over 1000 bucks in Region I; 17,916 for 2000 compared to 16,849 in
1999."
