I had the opportunity to meet David Maass at last year's Ducks Unlimited Festival in Memphis and after meeting him, felt compelled to try and use his art in some way on this website. The ducks on the top of this page are taken from a David Maass print and although the internet and it's digital limitations don't really afford them justice, they add so much to this page in a way that no one else could. You often think of celebrities, artists, and other important people as larger than life. Then, when you meet them, you are disappointed to learn that they don't even like their job and like the public which adores them even less. Well, after meeting David Maass, I am more impressed than I have ever been about an outdoor enthusiast of his caliber. This is a genuinely good man that loves nature and puts more than just paint on the canvas, he puts his heart and soul. His artistic ability with wildlife and especially with waterfowl is incredible and for that reason I'll be featuring some of his works from time to time. Just to see an original painting of his is amazing. I've owned prints of his and of other wildlife artists over the years. But, when you see the original, you realize what a huge difference there is. I've never seen one until last year and it never crossed my mind that it would be that much different than the prints. But, it's like night and day comparing the two. Luckily, Wild Wings has now made a limited selection of Maass prints available in what is known as giclee (pronounced zhee-clay). This process makes a reproduction of digital files of an artwork that very closely resembles the millions of colors in the original artwork. It is truly the closest thing to an original and at a fraction of the cost. To me, just to be able to look at one of his paintings brings thoughts of a cold north wind and the chatter of mallards. It sets a mood that brings a smile to my face and for that I am truly grateful. For I love duck hunting, and to think of those days in the blind is exciting. Nobody can bring out those memories on a humid 90 degree day like David Maass. Ability like his is a gift that is not present in many people. If you ever get the chance to see his works in person, take advantage of it. You may never see anything like it again. For
